Tonight I made shrimp for my parents and it tasted great. Andy wasn't around, so it was the perfect time to eat some seafood. I used to not like shrimp either. That was before I moved to Hawaii and convinced myself I was going to be one with the ocean and like it. I bought a bunch of different varieties and cooked my little shrimpies in different ways. And what do you know; it grew on me.
I still have to make sure I don't think about what shrimp looks like alive when I eat this stuff...but this marinade almost makes up for the fact that live shrimp have tentacles and look like insects. Wait, this post is supposed to make you want to eat this. Sorry.
Here's the DELICIOUS recipe:
Grilled Garlic-Basil Shrimp
Adapted from Recipezaar.com
2 lbs extra large shrimp, peeled and deveined
1 teaspoon chili powder
2 tablespoons prepared basil pesto
1 tablespoon minced garlic
2 tablespoons lemon or lime juice
2 tablespoons olive oil
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
2 tablespoons brown sugar
Mix all ingredients in bag and marinate for 3 hours in refrigerator. Prepare grill to high heat and grill 8-10 minutes, turning to char all sides.

Instead of grossing me out with your description of shrimps as insects you are making me drool here! I just made some radish greens pesto and I have some leftover and I am thinking of using it with some shrimp and grilling them like you did; they look so so good!
Would you like to come and cook for us, Laura? I'm awfully jealous of all that good food I keep seeing on your blog! BTW, I wonder if you would've liked the shrimp we had the other day at a Korean restaurant...head and all! I tried not to think too much about the little black eyes staring up at me! ;)
Wow...eating shrimp with the head still on. That's very brave Aunt Robin! I'm impressed!
Your blog always makes me so hungry! Every thing looks so delicious! I have tried a couple of recipies and loved them! I cant decide what to try next. Keep posting. I love checking it.
